I'm confused...the NISD secondary dress code says that students may not wear shorts and my son was not allowed to wear them in Middle School. However all the neighborhood kids say that they are allowed to wear knee length shorts at Brennan HS. Does anyone have any experience with this?

At Brennan they can wear them at knee length. They cannot be athletic shorts.

Wait, how are they allowed to violate NISD policy?!? If one high school is allowed to wear shorts, they all should!

The nisd policy leaves room for principals discretion.

I never really understand the "complete" ban of shorts. As long nothing is revealed or hanging out, then I think shorts should be allowed. I am glad that principal is allowing the kids to wear shorts as long they are not distasteful.
When I was in junior high, our PE shorts were way too short but no one seemed to care. Good grief, the paranoia that people have these days is a bit too much.

Agreed Matt. This is Texas afterall and temps are still 100 when the kids return to class. Not to mention the hot buses. The bus drivers can wear shorts, so why not let students.

Yep, my soon to be Junior at Clark also says they can wear shorts up to the knee, although she never does... She is always scared to get in trouble, for whatever reason, so she is in jeans all year long, except for her ROTC days...

I remember the short rule was changed in 1996, in 6th grade. It was toward my junior/senior year when capris started to be acceptable. Boys were wearing the longer below the knee like cargo shorts but the girls were told that capris were inappropriate. It's only fair now. I never saw anyone wearing like bermuda shorts, but could see it happening now.

I'll second that. Going into our third year there and I have yet to see anything that I would classify as a wardrobe malfunction. But that could be because the VP or principal are at the door most mornings greeting folks as they come in.
