I am SO fortunate to have a handy husband

The blower motor in our AC went out yesterday and needs to be replaced. Is there a speciality shop here in SA that sells HVAC parts to the general public? We need to buy a new one tomorrow; our upstairs is pretty toasty.

Thanks!!

I purchased a condensor fan motor from Johnstone supply in Alamo Downs near 410 and Culebra. Most places will not sell A/C parts to the general public if they are in any way in contact with the refrigerant due to environmental laws. Give them a call.

Thanks SATX56- we got it taken care of... will remember your suggestion for next time!

I have to RAVE about Flo-Aire Services... I found them by doing a search on here. After calling the above stores and being told they would not sell to the general public, I called Steve and told him exactly what we needed. We actually found the motor online for ~$200 (including overnight shipping) and were going to order online unless I could find an HVAC person locally who would sell it to us for a reasonable price. Steve charged us exactly what he paid ($173 + tax) plus a $16 devliery fee. It was at our house within the hour!!!!!! I am so thrilled to have found an honest AC person and won't hesitate to call him again!! (assuming hubby cann't fix the problem himself.)

Glad you got it taken care off. Carrier has a place off Stahl Rd too. Grainger just mentioned was off Rittiman ..I guess it still is. First Source on E Nakoma another Appliance outfit. Evaporator motors are generally 115volt bigger horsepower motors and pricey. Condensor unit motors are generally 230volt and smaller HP rating and more readily available. Easier to find at many more locations and much cheaper. Many more general replacement motors for condensing units.

I started to mention you might have a neighbor or find a tech calling around. Sometimes you can make a connection. Being out of the loop really costs $$$ .

Grainger has requirements for creating an account with them, usually that you are a business, as they do not compete with retail establishments. But Grainger also requires whatever certificate is now valid before you can purchase items having to do with refrigeration.

I have no idea what's going on with the regulations. Replacing a fan motor doesn't require opening a line, and I was unable to purchase those tablets you place in your evaporator tray locally. I guess it's just protective regulations for the industry. I'm also guessing my IMACA card isn't valid anymore.

I know this thread is 6 years old but came across it as I'm a former HVAC Field Tech looking to help Consumers with General Advice and DIYer's find parts or the right information/video/diagram to help them get their unit maintained and going again for a lot longer than the warranty coverage.

I work for a Controls Company now that services Commercial Buildings, so this is my way of still helping Residential Folks out since I had to leave my previous company because they weren't being honest and fair to their customers.

Anyways here's a couple of websites I've come across that should help you find parts for DIYer's to maintain or fix their Central AC.

New, Rebuilt, Used Parts | Don's Air Conditioning

https://value-controls.com/

used HVAC parts, circulation oil heaters, electric water heaters, actuators, diesel fired boilers, fuel oil valves, high speed air motors, volute seal rings
