Susan Pamerleau for sure. Retired USAF General....know her stuff....tough and fair.

It is really a no brainer if you are looking for someone who has PROVEN the ability to ensure things are done correctly!

Really? Her tenure at AFPC was far from stellar and she has absolutely zero law enforcement experience.

Better the devil you know. I'm voting Ortiz.

This is true, Ortiz does have over 30 years of law enforcement experience and I feel he is a good person. With that being said, it does not take a cop to run a large sheriff's office. Sheriff Ortiz does not go to major crime scenes, he does not investigate anything, or write tickets, or take calls. So what makes you think you actually need an experienced law enforcement official to do the job? What this county needs right now is someone who can manage a large group of people and a large budget.

Also, listen to the difference in the way they speak! You can hardly understand Ortiz when he is talking to the media. It makes the entire sheriff's office and SAPD look bad! Even his own deputies want him out!

Ortiz has had a running fued w/the commissioners AND his deputies, plus can't seem to balance a budget...

Isn't this the same sheriff that had a/c units designed to protect K-9's from dying of heat in the cars....but were NEVER installed because "no one in their shops could figure out how to install them" - but rather than getting them installed (and not letting them just sit around gathering dust), they were left laying, and dogs died because they didn't have them?!??? Those dogs aren't cheap either - even if you're okay with abusing innocent animals.

Last two post are very, very true. A shame that some do not realize the fact that your own troops do not see you as an effective leader and want you removed for the shame, waste and lack of support you have provided. When you are talking about leading law enforcement folks, it has to have the support of those in the KNOW, those that carry out the job...or your are ineffective.
