I have been offered a job in the SA area and have never been to Texas (Spent 2 weeks total in Houston, but was working so it wasn't vacation).

I am in the oil industry so my work will all be South of San Antonio... Pleasanton, Carrizo Springs, Etc. I know there will be a commute involved and the exact location of my office is yet to be determined. I understand that there is crime is a city as large as SA. What are some reasonable neighborhoods/areas of town that are safe?

Also, having never been to San Antonio..I'm completely in the dark when it comes to things to do, vibe of the city, etc. I've heard Austin is very fun... never been there either.

Any recommendations for living areas or your thoughts on moving there would be appreciated.

I think you'll get more replies if you give us some more info: budget, size of house or apt., what you like and don't like, are schools important or not, etc. SA does have crime but there are many safe areas. But it's a big, spread out city so more specifics please!
