That's why it won't be a game that counts.

I thought that was one of the bigger gaffes of the Alamodome. Something like it was supposed to be multipurpose including baseball and then when it was too late it was deemed too small for baseball (including the roof too low).

Maybe I am remembering it wrong.

I think it was SOLD on being multipurpose, but when they actually had the design team and contractors look at it, it became evident that it would be too expensive. If I remember correctly, the cost of the stadium was relatively cheap (under $200 million). I believe the rationale at the time was that enclosed baseball stadiums were old fashioned so...

In MY opinion, the bigger gaffe was locating the AT&T Center where they did.

I didn't live here when the location was chosen, but I seem to recall reading in Nelson Wolff's autobiography that he and the county swooped in with an offer at the 11th hour to locate the AT&T Center next to Freeman Coliseum. The offer was made as a deal with the city to locate it someplace else was collapsing.

But I agree completely that the location of the AT&T Center has got to be listed among the top 2 or 3 boondoggles in San Antonio's history.

Welcome to the major leagues.

I suspect the pricing is partly a market test and proof of concept to see how much San Antonians are willing to pay to watch baseball. If citizens want MLB to put a team here, they need to buy every last one of those tickets.

I'll probably be buying tickets, even though as a diehard National League fan, I can't stand American League baseball.
