They're talking about this thread. Andy Thomas, who writes the Weathervane blog at mysa.com linked to this thread today in his latest entry.
MySA.com: Weathervane
He was complimentary of something I said in one of my posts above, so I will take this opportunity to encourage everyone who's interested in San Antonio weather topics to check out his blog. It's a good read.

Wow, is this photo from your personal collection? So has anyone heard Vanessa on the radio? I see that she part of a morning show from Austin. Anyone know if that is correct?
Also anyone seen Natalie Tejeda now that she is the spokesperson for SAWS and by the way what do spokespersons do when they arent having to cover something up in a news conference?
Also why are so many ex-anchors now spokespeople? Anyone else notice that?
Natalie is one. The spokes person for the Airport was on Kens. The spokes person for Somerset ISD (Maury something) was also on Kens. The spokesperson for South San ISD as well and a few others. Whats up with that. Do spokespersons make more than news anchors?

This is nothing new. Spokesperson jobs make a great second career for TV news people because they are a media job that takes advantage of the same skills and contacts, without the daily deadline pressure. The biggest advantage to that career choice is that it offers a more conventional 9-5 weekday workweek. As news people get into their 30s and 40s, they find that the odd work hours of TV news are much less desirable when they have kids at home.
Those jobs usually won't pay better than a reporter job in this market, but the benefits are often better.

On that topic....lets come up with a list of TV news people that have been on the air (let alone same station) for 25 years plus in SA.
Chris Marrou - KENS
Debra Knapp - KENS
Jesse Degollado - KSAT
Paul Venama - KSAT
Moclovio Perez- WOAI
Who else?
|
Well, Maclovio Perez maybe has been on the air for 25 years, but not all have been in San Antonio. He was gone from SA for quite a while and only returned a few years ago.

Lisa Burkhart and Jon Herbert both from KENS are or were spokespeople for the Airport
There was one from KENS that left for a spokesperson at a Cancer type place.
Larry Meyer (KENS) spokesperson for AT&T
There is an former anchor from KSAT that is a spokesperson for CPS (child protective services)
There are lots of them if you have a good memory of people and look around.
