Hi all, We are going to be stationed at Fort Sam in May, need some help with what neighborhoods have a strong public school system and are relatively safe. Not looking for a really urban area since we have 2 dogs and 2 kids, neighborhoods with yards, etc. Looking to rent, $1500/month limit. Also, any recommends for a trustworthy property management company would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

Some of the best schools are near ft Sam. Northwood, Cambridge, woodridge, windcrest are all excellent elementary schools nearest ft Sam.

A lot of people seem to rave about the Alamo Heights Independent School District. Northeast ISD also has strong schools in the area. I went to Garner MS and MacArthur HS and thought they were decent, but I graduated almost a decade ago. My younger sister went to those schools more recently including Northwood Elementary and she's doing well in college.

I guess the regulations have changed since I've been in high school. We had some neighbors across the alley from us stationed at Ft. Sam. Their children attended Robert G. Cole High School. As stated earlier, North East Independent School District has some pretty good schools. The campuses are older, but well established. Most of the older schools are being renovated. Alamo Heights has some excellent schools as well, but the rent is higher.

For $1500/month, you may want to look in the Terrell Heights or Northwood areas. It is off of N. New Braunfels which will give you a staight shot down to Ft. Sam. The elementary for that area is Woodridge and there is only one Jr and Sr high in the AHISD. Both areas are in the City of SA.
