Hi,
My family (family of 5) and I are needing to relocate from Austin to San Antonio in a very short amount of time and I'm going crazy trying to figure out where to live. I think we've narrowed it down to the Stone Oak area and the area around La Cantera mainly because of schools and to be honest we are used to the suburban life. Which area is better suited for a commute to the airport during rush hour in the mornings and afternoons? Any other information on the areas would be helpful as well. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY FEEDBACK!

Both are going to be kind of painful. I can't speak for the Stone Oak commute, but the La Cantera commute could be about 30ish minutes. Your worst traffic will be at the area outside and just near 1604 and a little bit of 410, but the most back up at 410 is heading west, not east.

Ick, neither. Plenty of great suburban areas much closer to the airport.

Blah to both. I'm in a neighborhood that is neither and takes only 15 to 20 minutes to the airport.

My husband goes to the airport often from Stone Oak--just past Knights Cross-- and it is 20-30 minutes. On the upside the commute will improve once the road construction is finished making it faster. Schools out here are excellent. I don't know what schools the La Cantera areanfeeds into so can't help you there. Personally I'd rather deal with a lot of traffic on a straight shot up 281 then drive IH-10 to 410 to get to the airport.

I'm afraid you're going to get a lot of negative feedback on SO. Many people on C-D really hate it but the people I know who live here are quite happy including me -and I actually know alot of people from SA that live out here. Tons of kids and family activities. Wherever you end up I hope it's a good transition for you from Austin.

Friends don't let friends.. live in Stone Oak. Just say NO. Seriously, both of those commutes would be horrible.

About the same commute to/from both in rush hour. About 30 minutes, 45 during the really hairy stuff. Stone Oak has the most room for improvement, highway construction wise.

Hollywood park would probably fit your needs pretty well. It's really suburb-y and only 10-15 minutes from the airport, with most traffic, yet won't have any airport noise. I don't live there, but I live near there off 281 & m Thousand Oaks and it's a short run for me. Also you are inside 1604, so you avoid almost all the stone oak traffic. If not Hollywood Park, maybe Hill Country Village. These are mainly homes built in the late 70's, early 80's that are large, settled, and very roomy. Just my two cents, seems to meet your criteria with limited problems with traffic.

Listen, I lived in Austin and will tell you Stone Oak is the complete opposite of Austin in every respect! Just because people say Stone Oak's traffic will "improve soon" doesn't mean it will. They worked on 281 then it was ok then it went bad because so many people got confused with the new signals on 281 and spend all their time crashing into each other. And yes, I work there in Stone Oak! Blah!
