First step, consider your vote for governor next time. This is how the current governor works. And while you're at it, demand accountability for all contractors. Like BCFS.

I once asked him when he'd be running for mayor. The others laughed and said "think state, not local."

Jack Colley was larger than life, figuratively and literally. Different people, different temperaments, different styles.

Kidd is a very good politician. Not easy to do considering he had to deal with locals, state people, and even feds. Keeping them all happy at the same time is tough, but the HQ of SAOEM is proof enough that he did his job very well. I've been to a number of EM facilities across the country, in major cities and small towns, and I can say ours is the nicest I've ever seen. Heck, a not-so-small city in NC has theirs in the basement of the police headquarters...

I met Jack Colley once or twice...his Army background was evident each time.

San Antonio's used to be in the basement of the old HQ....fun days. Love the "new" facility (tho I guess it's not so new anymore).

I never saw the old one...some have said the new one is overkill but I disagree. I've been to quite a few events/meetings there, and the space is extremely versatile and well-planned. Getting to the building is a PITA, though!

If you've been there during emergencies/events, then you know it's not overkill! Every inch of space is used, and all the fancy gadgets are used to capacity. One too many 12 hour shifts and it gets as stinky as the old HQ ;-) My office was on base, so easy. Much better than schleping across town.

Exactly. I've been involved in several exercises and know exactly what you mean. It's cool to see all the players working together.

Ahhhh 105 Auditorium Circle.... 3 floors below grade... Many memories... The new REOC is the Taj Majal compared to the old one.

We used to joke that Chuck Norris feared Jack Colley.
