Are you subscriber to the Express-News? My Express-News looked similar, but had the usual E-N masthead. I'm thinking this was a stunt for E-N non-subscribers.

Been out at least a couple weeks. They're just trying to draw subscribers back in to EN. Not gonna work.

I would agree. I feel the era of the printed newspaper as we knew it is drawing to a close.

I saw one of those for the first time this morning sitting on the counter (still in the plastic wrapper) where I went to get a haircut.

I'm a former long time E-N subsciber, so if I'm their target audience, they obviously haven't gotten to me, yet.

We got a free copy of the Helotes' Echo last week, I guess with online news sources newspapers are looking for ways to boost their declining readership...

I'm not a subscriber . And I later found out that it is a sampler that will be
delivered to non-subsribers every Saturday. Also the new San Antonio Light
is not the same publication that closed down twenty years ago...

" the era of the printed newspaper as we knew it is drawing to a close"
add to that... the book stores in our city as well.

They've been heralding the death of the printed word for well over 10 years and even more since the iPad came into vogue...

Folks, it's all been around since Gutenberg and will likely remain so long past all of your lifetimes. While the SA-EN might be experiencing a slowdown right now, newspapers are still floating fine in cities like Chicago, NYC, DC, LA and Boston. Sure, circulation is down, but ad sales remain strong, which in turn keeps a newspaper churning out.

It's not quite time yet to start writing the SA-EN obit. My issue with the local paper is that it's staffed with incompetent writers, terrible copywriting and a new format that's really unbecoming (or classy).

I found a copy on my front lawn sometime last week. I figured it was put there by accident. It went straight from my lawn into my trash can, didn't even open it to see what it was. I don't have the time or patience for printed newspapers any more.
