Too early for NB traffic, and Boerne traffic isn't much.

TIP: When you hit the corner of 46 and Main (at the riverside), take a right and don't stop until you hit I-10. It's the fastest way through Boerne.

Hwy 46 signs would have you go east for a mile or 2, through what traffic Boerne does have, then onto 1-10.

If you take the right at that corner light (Main/Hauptstrasse, you'll be on W-87. Go through downtown, and after about 3 miles, you will see I-10. You can't miss it, and it will save you about 4 miles and 10 minutes!
Totally agree with this one

OP here: Many thanks to all who took the time to respond! Although not unanimous I will stay out of SA Probably 46 at New Braunfels ... but maybe just straight west from San Marcos out over the backbone? May not make up my mind until I'm backing out of the driveway ...

Thanks again.

Sometimes I wonder if people read the original question. If Aggie is leaving from San Marcos it's going to take him an hour and 20 minutes at least just to get to Boerne and then another 20 -25 min. to Comfort that's 1 hr and 40 min minimum and about eighteen extra miles according to Google maps. I guess if you drive 75 or 80 on IH 35 you can make up those eighteen extra miles (85mi. vs 67mi.). I go to New Braunfels quite often from Boerne and I always take 1604, 46 is a PITA to drive, this is a different circumstance however.

I wonder if you've driven that route during SA rush hour. Loop 1604 gets very congested in the morning and he'll be stuck in the middle of it. There is far less traffic along 46 and it is a much more scenic drive if you ask me...

Yeah M2, I'm not sure where that post was coming from. Dyslexic travel routing at best.

I actually made that trip last week on my way out to New Mexico from Bulverde. There is absolutely no traffic congestion at rush hour. 46 flows at 65mph from 281 to Boerne. It flows about the same towards NB until you hit the High School. You slow down slightly going through Bulverde and Bergheim due to 3 stoplights.

As far as going all the way down 10 from Boerne to 1604, across the northside of 1604 in rush hour, and then back up 35 to New Braunfels, that's just plain retarded, or a lie. That route adds at least 20 miles to the drive, and puts you in bad rush hour traffic. Not my idea of a good time...

Anyone with half a brain knows to avoid 1604 during rush hour if at all possible.
