Here's a link for a map of the Mission Reach. Just for any that are unaware of it's availability. I think you can copy or get a copy of the chart printed from link.

Here's the bike rental kiosk at San Jose.

Here's the entrance at San Juan.

Well boy, we can always avoid the fact some trash ends up there and that it is ok because people litter elsewhere in town assuming you are correct.

You think wrong too. I do not really care if someone choose to go or not, I only speak of my own choice. (To answer your question, I have been there before but I will admit I didn't see that much trash at the time)

Bottom line: littering is a real problem in the city and the mission reach got affected by it. Directly or indirectly.

Our first time out after the recent flooding, Blue Star to Concepcion park -no issues. Detoured by sign to Mission drive where we rejoined the trail which was open until the Hot Wells area where there was significant construction equipment activity on the west bank and what looked like a barrier closure just south of the river level crossing.
Significant erosion noted around the trail just north of Mission drive, doesn't look like that segment will re-open anytime soon.

Default Mission Reach biking-revisited Sept '13

Kudos to whoever (SARA, city, county) was responsible for getting this great biking trail back up! There's a bit of east bank disruption just south of Hot Wells (looks like they're putting in stairs-bridge is also closed so you'd have to backtrack to VFW to proceed south) and the trail is still closed south of Mission San Juan. Wondering if that section took a bigger hit in the flooding, because we'd been down to where trail fizzled out just short of Mission Espada before the rains.

My husband and I had a nice little ride when we were in San Antonio over the Labor Day weekend. We rode from Blue Star, down past Espada and back. A bit short, but not bad.

Was the gate chained/locked at Mission San Juan? I've been down to just past 410 once when it was open in the spring but have found it locked everytime since then (of course it wouldn't take much to lift your bike over the gate and squeeze through ).
The trail map shows an alternative street level route to Espada, but in my opinion, that is NOT bike friendly (no shoulders, poor road, loose dogs abound).

No, the gate was opened and the path was clear. I agree that riding on the street can be rather iffy, especially with the loose dogs! Is Mission Reach the only bike path in San Antonio? I'm contemplating leaving a bike in San Antonio to use when I visit, but would like to know of other options on where to ride.

Thank you, Ashbeeigh! I do recall riding Salado Creek a few years back. Another very short ride, but good.
