This is not a reply, but a question I hope someone can help me with. I am elderly, living on a fixed income. After rent and most necessities, I have less than $200/mo. I need to get a state inspection sticker for my car, and need any recommendations for an ethical business to do this. I'm afraid if I go somewhere that is going to stick me for something I don't need to pass inspection, I will not be able to get it done, and still have to pay the $14.50, and leave $14.50 poorer with no inspection sticker. Any recommendations on an ethical business will be greatly appreciated. I live near Windcrest, Royal Ridge area, so would prefer a place in the northeast part of San Antonio. Thank you.

Any official inspection place is going to use the same set of requirements in order to pass your vehicle. Make sure all your lights and the horn are working, and that your tires and brakes are good. I've never felt the inspection was very intense.Good luck!

You'd be better off posting this in the forum, it's buried here in the "off-topic" section and it is definitely not "off-topic!"

I use the "Official Inspection Station" (that's the business' real name) on southbound Bandera just past Reindeer Trail. It's the little red, white, and blue garage and they have a few other locations around town. I've never had any problems. Only once did they find something that I needed to fix (a burned-out brake light that I must've missed when I pre-inspected the car.) Fortunately, I had a pack of those bulbs in the trunk and he let me change it myself right there.

The fine for not having a current inspection sticker in a traffic stop is north of $100. The inspection is cheaper.

Make sure you lights work, horn works, wipers don't streak, and you will pass. Check engine light doesn't matter, airbag light doesn't matter, smashed windshield doesn't matter.

TxDPS - FAQs: Items of Inspection

And while a cracked windshield is not a violation of the Texas Transportation Code, if the crack interferes with the operation of the windshield wipers in any way, it can cause an inspection failure.

You can be also be cited if a law enforcement officer feels it is a safety issue (it obscures the driver's vision in any way). It can also serve as probable cause for an officer to pull you over.

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) state that the effectiveness of any safety component cannot be diminished or disabled.

Over the years I've had several issues that would have kept a vehicle from passing (like several big cracks in a windshield) and "negotiated" for the sticker anyhow, usually with an 18 pk of Bud.
