A search turned up some old threads, so rather than reviving the dead I figured I start a thread to list and discuss local and/or organic food options in SA for those new to town (like myself) or just plain interested in locally produced food. Please feel free to add to the list and reviews.

Bolners Meat Market
2900 S Flores, San Antonio, Texas 78204
210-533-5112

They sell freezer packs, we got the $50 one, working our way through it. Best ground beef I've had in town so far. Pan sausage (you may know it as loose sausage) also great. Chuck steaks and chicken quarters were good. Haven't tried the ribs yet. The garlic sausage we had while we were there was awesome.

Dziuk's Meat Market
608 Hwy 90 W, Castroville, TX 78009
830-931-3082

Jalapeño and Cheese Snack Sticks (or meat sticks for you other Northeasterners) were great. Tried the Ham Bacon, which I never heard of before, ok - but I was the lone approver in the house. Will edit later on the quality of the ground beef and pan sausage.

Scott Arbor
830-379-0588
A vegetable CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) out of Seguin with delivery locations Downtown, E, NE, N, NW, and W ends of town. I haven't tried these guys yet but we are planning on buying a share starting in May. Please share any reviews/experiences.

Koch Ranches
210-704-8212
A grass-fed meat farm that also offers veggie/meat CSA shares. Haven't tried it yet either, looking for any experiences you may have.

Additionally, if anyone knows of where one can go to buy 1/4-1/2 pig/cow, please share.

Just as I posted the above I saw that the Westcreek HOA will be hosting a Farmer's Market on Thursdays from 9am-2pm by the Community Center (just follow Military West until you can't follow it anymore) starting in April through September.

While I applaud my HOA for being forward thinking and bringing stuff like this in, the hours of operation will ensure that the vast majority of those it could serve will not be able to use it. Are there really that many stay at home parents? I don't think so, and I don't think it will be financially viable unless they change the hours.

LOL, I was thinking the same thing when I read it. At least my wife can hit it up after classes.
