One of Charles E. Butt has a son(I think it is his son, but I may be incorrect), who either collects modern art, or has a gallery.
Does anyone know the name of the gallery? Is it open to the public?
Are there any other modern art galleries in the area?
I am becoming more interested in modern...cleaner lines, open to interpretation...

Great question. He has a house in King William so maybe he keeps some of it there?

He donated one million to the McNay. You should also visit SAMA.

The Barrera family (Roy, Roy jr, etc) have a modern sculpture outdoor gallery on Vance Jackson (across from Howsman Elementary) that is open to the public on infrequent ocasions. You can see most everything from the street without cost.

The McNay has a modern art collection.

19th- and 20th-century Art

So does the San Antonio museum of Art.

San Antonio Museum of Art - Contemporary Art

Though SAMA is better known for its Greek and Roman statuary.

You're right--ArtPace is awesome. (And their membership card has amazing benefits, such as two-for-one admission to the Santikos Bijou at any time, as well as 20% off your entire tab at The Esquire.)

Blue Star also gets some really good shows. SAMA, too, has a pretty amazing modern collection--small but good. I also like that their contemporary collection gives a strong nod to SA.
