I was thinking a local TV News was over doing the upcomming Fiesta Celebrations in light of the tragic bombing at the Boston Marathon. I said to myself why would anyone want to target us here in San Antonio?

Then the name Ira Atteberry popped back into my consciousness. It can and has happend here.

So for those who died and were injured in Boston, and those San Antonians who also lost their lives and were injured in 1979...I pray and remember y'all.

I have avoided all such very large gatherings for years. At my age, I just don't enjoy them much anymore...and then there's the unlikely (but still possibe) chance some nutcase(s) will use it to kill people also.

It happened before I was born, but I recall seeing the newspaper articles and pictures later. And there was also that one year where some sicko snatched up a little girl at fiesta. Horrible as well.

You're much more likely to die driving on 1604 or 410, or eating in any of the local tacquerias.

Learn to worry about the important things, not rare incidents such as what happened here in 1979 or in Boston.

Amen. Not to trivialize these incidences, but breeding panic is what terrorism is all about. It's the number one goal of those who would commit these acts. To give into them is to admit defeat of our way of life.

That said, I avoid overcrowded events myself. I refuse to surrender my comfort to the hoards. Life is too short to battle crowds in order to have a good time.

Avoiding Fiesta, or any other event, because of the crowds is a personal choice. One that I choose to make as well. The existence of this thread is exactly the aim of "terrorists" and feeds into it. I encourage any moderator out there to delete it.

While I can appreciate your view on the subject, I'm not sure that ignoring the 1st Amendment is the answer either.

I totally agree, having seen San Antonio get bigger and bigger in the last decade or so, I am no longer willing to go to big big big crowd events anymore. They are no longer fun.
