I need some help from locals!

I am moving to the San Antonio area this summer because I got a job on Lackland AFB. Now, I need to know the best areas to live since I'm not at all familiar with the area.

What I'm looking for:
A house to buy(<150K)
Fenced yard (I have dogs)
A younger area (I'm 27, no kids) with a social scene nearby.
I'd like quirky, quietish neighborhood without a lot of road noise and, of course, located somewhat close to Lackland without being on top of it.
I play a lot of soccer. If you know of adult soccer leagues (womens or co-ed), please let me know!

Any info you can share will be GREATLY appreciated!!! If you have neighborhood names or areas of town, that'd be the most helpful!

B

Did you run a search in the forum? I think you'll find a ton of good recommendations as almost all of that has been asked many times. Put that together with the posts that you receive here...and you'll have some good reading. Good luck.

a new soccer league * * * * * * * * * * *Central Soccer Association - Home - they play just south of downtown
San Antonio Soccer Association, SASA - northside

quirky + social scene + younger = near downtown neighborhoods (Southtown, Alta Vista, Tobin Hill) but quiet may be a bit of a challenge. A house with a fenced yard under $150K will be hard in Southtown, but possible in the other areas for a house needing work.

Areas around Lackland AFB are old and run down. Your best bet is up West Loop 1604 from Potranco to Bandera roads. There are lots of houses on both sides of Loop 1604 that are in your price range. I believe there are soccer fields off of Culebra and 1560 (outside of Loop 1604).

You would probably kill yourself if you had to live any subdivision around 1604. They are the definition of cookie cutter. Look inside the loop. Either just north if downtown or just south of downtown.
