Everyone needs to beware of Cali Nails, near Anna's Linens and Pet Smart at 1604 and Culebra. They cut my better half's finger and it took a while to stop the bleeding. She asked the owner for a written statement that they would pay any medical costs, he did it, but kept saying, "you rude, you rude". The employee that cut her finger got between the owner and my wife, to cool him down, and he shoved her out of the way. He must not know that in this country shoving an employee is pretty serious. Maybe when my wife got home we should have called the sheriff and filed a report, but she was so mad, she said just let it go.

So beware of how Cali Nails does business and treats their employees.

I would be more worried about your wife and her finger that's been cut. Seven years ago, my Mother in Law contracted an infection in her foot from one of these places. Not some common ordinary infection, a MERCA infection.

Long story short, it had her bedridden for months, keeping the wound open. The woman was in her '80's at the time with rheumatoid arthritis, so eventually she was terminally bedridden. She just passed away in mid April. My wife will never forgive the "Nails" place for essentially cutting her Mom's life short by years.

For those who would scream "lawsuit", consider this: these places have no assets to speak of, and in many cases no insurance. They operate on a week to week basis. In other words, there's nothing to sue for.

Point is, these places can be harbors for all kinds of nasty germs. Be very careful in your selection.

Well, trying to find an nail salon that is not run or owned by Vietnamese, Korean, etc. families is like looking for a "needle in a haystack". Any recommendations?

I would like to find a Salon where English is spoken

I do not understand people who speak Vietnamese or Korean.

Go to a spa like Woodhouse or at the Hyatt. Doubtful they will have foreigners running the place.

On the larger front, I just think its rude for people to speak a foreign language at work in front of people who don't speak their language. I am not Hispanic but I can understand Spanish, and I sometimes find it funny when people don't think I know what they are saying.

You might try All About Me on Bandera, just outside of 1604 (near the Silverado movie theater).

I do feel like I should mention that there are many perfectly nice Vietnamese nail salons in San Antonio. I'm sorry the OP knows someone who had a bad experience at one, but we shouldn't be so quick to judge all of them. Personally, I'm a big fan of the very nice and professional folks at Nail World (1604 and Hausman) and Silk Nail Salon (San Pedro and Rector, just inside 410).
