This is my second year to try melons. Last year my melons got to about 2 inches across and it was like Thanksgiving for the critters. Any ideas how I can get a melon to a harvestable size?

You may need to harvest a few critters first.

First you have to protect them from squirrels and these guys...

..and of course pillbugs love them. Use snailbait.

Love the "harvest the critters" comment. As to what sort of critter might be enjoying my garden ... we have birds, squirrels and apparently a dratted opposum. I pick the tomatoes before they get really red so - so far - no problems there. The critters ignore the beans, peas and squash. It's just the melons.
