Maybe we should sell some more bonds to raise some money. Or build some more big subdivisions to bring in more property tax money. Expand the street car project to produce more nickles into city coffers. How can we have money problems when we are so frugal?
I never saw this coming.

When was the last time the city had to raise taxes? It's been a very long time. Sculley will figure out a way to stay under budget. It's pretty dang easy to shave 50 million from costs. Remember, the budget is over two billion and quickly growing to three billion.

You do know the city isn't involved with the street car project any longer. Right?
It also wasn't being paid for with the money included in the city budget.

Did you read the article in the OP? The District 10 councilman said that the city has committed $32 million to the project, but that commitment is reversible as the money has not yet been spent. The mayor expressed reluctance to do that because other government funds (county, Federal) are dependent on those funds.

I was speaking of the PID funded portion of the project.

Balderdash. I don't think the property tax rate has been increased since Sculley's been here (2005ish) and COSA has the highest credit rating of any city in the top 10; it's even higher than the US federal government's rating. In a budget exceeding $2 billion, you'll always find some waste and inefficiency, but IMO, they've been quite responsible with the city coffers.
