Yes, this is another one of those threads.

So, I have family in Houston, Killeen, Spring, Austin, Dallas, Waco, McKinney, DFW and Irving.

We decided to move to San Antonio. I spent a year in the Army here. My wife spent 3 years here. This was years before we met.

We love the Detroit Pistons, our second favorite team is the Spurs. This is also a happy coincidence.

So, I am a registered nurse, with an associates degree here in Michigan. I am going to school online for the BA.

We are moving to San Antonio. I know the hospitals have no unions here. I am okay with that.

I make $35.30/hour here, in Flint, MI. We also pay city and state taxes.

How much can a nurse with 7 years as an RN, 2 as a LPN, and an ex Army medic make here?

Which hospital system has the best culture for administration that doesn't jerk you around?

Any help is appreciated it.

You might want to look at either the VA hospital or BAMC since you're a veteran. I've been told that their benefits are better than say the "civilian" hospitals. Also the pay will probably be better.

Did that $35.50 per hour include hazard pay? <G>

(I'm a Michigander born and raised now living in SA)

I would say that an RN with your experience should make anywhere between $30 and $40 an hour. I know several RN's that get paid within that range. As far as good hospital systems go, I have heard nothing but good things from those that work for the Baptist Health System. Another poster mentioned the VA or BAMC. While I second that recommendation, I know that there is currently a hiring freeze at BAMC. The benefits are great, but the pay is slightly less than in the private sector, and we are currently going through a furlough. I don't think the VA is subject to the furlough, and I don't know if they are affected by the hiring freeze.

A search on usajobs for registered nurse in san antonio pulled up 5 openings at the VA:

Either way, good luck with your move!
