For something different, I would recommend the Fujiya Japanese Garden and Sushi Bar at 9030 Wurzbach Road, which is near the halfway point along the stretch of Wurzbach between Fredericksburg Road and I-10 on the Northwest side. Probably the best authentic Japanese restaurant and sushi bar in central Texas, and those who like to splurge can reserve the tatami dining room, enjoy the hospitality of waitresses in kimono dress, and converse with many of the area's small community of Japanese, who all seem to know each other.
I must admit, I can make a full satisfying meal just out of their house recipe gyoza (potstickers), turning a dim sum type appetizer into a pigout fest.

Alamo Cafe is NOT a Mexican restaurant! It's one step up from Taco Bell.

Chris Madrid's absolutely for burgers, although there are other good burger joints.
Sorrento's in Alamo Heights is one of our favorites.

Fish City Grill for seafood - it was awesome! At Northwoods, but I think they are opening one at La Cantera as well.
Wildfish was also excellent, but pricey. Excellent seafood tower, I could eat 1000 of the Jonah crab claws. Go for Happy Hour, 1/2 price apps.
Islamorada Fish Company at Bass Pro Shops was also very good, and very easy to order a healthy meal (ditto for Fish City Grill)

I have to agree. After years of never checking that place out, a business associate of mine suggested we have dinner there with a client. It was absolutely the worst "Mexican" food I have had in a long time! (and Ive had some pretty crappy mexican food) I was pretty embarassed to have had the dinner there with a client, as she is no stranger to mexican food. I had to apologize for the meal during a conversation we had later.

It's been several years since I've been there, but I remember having to wait forever for a table--it was packed! The people I was with were just raving about their delicious, fresh tortillas. I can't remember if the food was good or not........must not have been too wowed, as I've not been back, but I honestly don't think it was particularly bad.

Used to love it. It has declined in the past few years. Still makes a mean tortilla soup. But the rest of the menu, along with the service and cleanliness is lacking.
