I remember talking to the guy (the son) who runs this program, Jason Mata, nice guy, when I lived in that neighborhood. Anyway not sure if this is the kind of thing you are looking for but figure it wouldn't hurt to mention. The program is free but not just "straight boxing". It's on the near West side, off Buena Vista just 2 miles from downtown. His father, Charlie Mata, was a Golden Gloves champion boxer in the 60s.

The Advocates Boxing Youth Program is an outgrowth from TASS-SAT and was in founded in 1999. The main purpose of the Youth Boxing Program is teach reach out to needy and AT-Risk youth and offer Free Boxing and case management services to them and their families. Our program is Unique in that we combine our Expertise in the Boxing field with our Expertise in various Social Services areas. The Boxing allows youth to vent anger, participate in an Exercise program, and helps with Mental illness as well. Other positive attributes are helping with Childhood Obesity, addressing Diabetes, and avoiding gangs, drugs, and teen pregnancy.
The case management helps the Youth Mentoring and helps to stabilize their families if a need for social services is prevalent.

I remember seeing him on ABC's Secret Millionaire. Jeff Usner visited his boxing gym and gave him some money to help run the program for kids.

Oh wow they still around....my dad was with them when I was a kid. Trainer was Randazzo (sp?) That's cool - might hv to check them out soon!
