Default Pediatric Orthopedics

Our son was born with Polydactyly. He has an additional thumb on his left hand.
We were told that this is a fairly simple surgery. Need to have the extra thumb removed, then have the remaining thumb reshaped. He's almost 9 months old and is now ready for the surgery.
Since we have only been here since August, we are still shopping for a regular pediatrician (been through 2 already) and don't have the luxury of a recommendation from him.
My wife has only been in the USA for a little over 2 years (from Guadalajara) and would prefer a bilingual pediatric as well as surgeon. She is now 80% English fluent and learning quickly however; when it comes to medical care for our son, she would prefer to have the chance to speak Spanish (it's a comfort issue) with the doctors.
Another issue, most of our friends here are military and use military facilities. They can't recommend someone that we'd be able to see.
I'm a consultant in the private sector. No military background.

Any help would be appreciated. FWIW, we are near Sea World (Far West) but don't mind traveling over to Medical Center or downtown.

We go to Helotes pediatrics and I know they have a bilingual doctor there but I don't know which one it is. The drive wouldn't be that far from you since they are just off 1604 at Bandera Rd. The orthopedic surgeon they refer out to is in the Medical center region but I've never had any experience with one. Good luck.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will give them a call this week. Anyone else?

I would recommend:
Pediatric Orthopedic Associates
4499 Medical Drive, Suite 235
Methodist Plaza
San Antonio, Texas 78229
(210) 692-1613

Facilities are accessible for the disabled. Services are available in English and Spanish.
At this location:

Crawford, John Jay, MD (Board-certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon.)
Edeen, John, MD (Board-certified orthopedic surgeon.)
Estrada, Elizabeth, PA (Physician assistant.)
Magnabosco, Elizabeth Louise, MD (Board-certified orthopedic surgeon.)
Ritchie, Eric Raymond, MD (Pediatric orthopedic surgeon.)
Stanley, Earl Austin, MD (Board-certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon.)

They also have in office in Stone Oak. The practice has been around for years, and is, IMHO, and that of others, the "best" in SA.

Our son has an orthopedic condition, and was followed by them from birth to age 2. (at that point, we made to decision to seek care with a nationally known specialist out of state- NOT because our Dr couldn't help, but because my son's condition is 1:100,000. Most ortho's will never even HEAR of his condition, let alone see/be experienced. And our ortho at PO-SA was totally supportive.) The physician that we saw is no longer with them either (he is chief of surgery at Shriner's Hospital, Erie, PA.

I believe that Dr Stanley is the most experienced. And, while you are shopping for a pedi, go ahead and call them and explain your situation. Generally, specialists want referrals when the dx is not clear. But in your case, you already have one...
