So I ignored a crack too long and now it has grown past the "repair" stage.

I have looked it up on Safelite and it seems like I am looking at like $465 (2010 Taurus SHO). To me Safelite seems like the "Cadillac" of repair services. Are there any others out there? I wouldnt even know where to start.

I am prepared to pay Safelite's prices but was wondering if I could do better.

Unfortunately, I usually need a new windshield every other year. It's just a characteristic of the construction jobs I frequent. I use ONLY Safelite now. After getting several "cheaper" windshields that the glass was so distorted that you couldn't hardly drive the truck, I'm now a Safelite customer forever. I don't go to them, they come to me by appointment. It takes about 20 minutes for a complete windshield seal and install. The trucks come to you with a mechanism that is short of amazing. The tech will mount it on your vehicle and it pretty much handles the glass for the tech. Pretty slick if you haven't seen it before. Makes for a factory finish job every time. I see no reason to call anyone else.

They did $1200 in damage to the roof of my 4Runner a few years back while performing their "factory finish" job. Apparently the tech (new guy) couldn't get the windshield out so he took some type of pry device and used the roof of the car (space between the windshield and sunroof) for leverage. The next day I'm coming down the attic ladder and happen to look at the top of my rig and it's dented all over. I was not happy. They sent there "top" guy back out after I had the damage repaired and the new windshield was done correctly this time. Safelite did take care of the damage with no issue so I was happy about that.

I've used Safelite several times with no problems so I just chalked that one instance up to bad luck.

As for the OP, I'm assuming this is a windshield with wiper sensors in it as normal windshields are typically less than $300 these days.

Yeah it has the rain sensors. Interstingly, I didnt realize any of the sensors up around the rearview mirror were actually attached to the glass. I thought they were behind it.

Well it took 2 1/2 months from my original post but Safelite just left here. Havent driven the car or anything but cosmetically speaking it looks beautiful. ($494 later)

I was completely shocked that they saved the inspection sticker. I knew the registration would just peel off but the inspection looked like it would disintegrate if you tried.

Glass America is awesome. They are Safelite's main competitor. They came to my job and did a superb job replacing my windshield. It was about $250. They also put back on your stickers.
