“there may be a time when one of these guys saves your life…” “then again maybe one of us wont” Classic line and delivery!!
I would much rather drown then rely on some of these people to save my life. Chance are , all they would do sould be lecture me on how great they are before departing. Thanks, but no thanks!
It's good news for us though. I hope they stop all the building. It will give our politicians a chance to get the traffic right. Hopefully, they won't fall asleep at the wheel again!
It'll also help reduce the competition with sales of existing homes.
As for the second part, I would rather see a proactive approach to road-building and improvement, as in building up the roads before the subdivisions go in. Just imagine what an improvement this would be over the current "wait until it's gridlocked, so we can toll it" approach. "Waking up" to the realization that there is gridlock is not a solution.
So the big problem with the Wolf Creek Subdivision is that they are pulling out and leaving the neighborhood incomplete? What about the quality of the homes, has there been any complaints or problems there? What about anything else? I am thinking about buying a home there, but after reading all this I am not sure anymore. I already gave my earnest deposit, and now it is being processed, should I back out? Can I get my deposit back? Does anyone have anything they can share about Wolf Creek? Thanks. (I have a 4 year old that I was hoping could benefit from growing up in a new neighborhood community, so I guess this is not the best choice)
And oh yeah, I did not get any price discounts for anything, other than their normal incentives. I am not skilled negotiating, but she would not budge from the price. Not a bit! They said I was already getting the lowest price possible and that they were not even making a profit, she said that even her commission was being cut into. BUT I am paying full price according to what the website has it offered at... so I don't know... this is a first time home purchase for me and my family and it is soo scarry.

Builders are hurting so they are not negotiating on build to order homes. The only negotiating you get these days is from buying an inventory home.

It's your call, but if what I have read on here is true (and it seems to be), I would be finding someplace else to live!
We've bought two DR Hortons/Continental homes and like them, but I can easily understand why people would be upset about what happened in Wolf Creek. If I lived there, I would be too! But what do they expect the builder to do, keep building and lose tons of money? Perhaps some do, but they are a business, and any other business facing the prospect of losing money would do the same thing. Ugly, but it is a financial reality.
I don't think DR Horton is the only builder that is going to do what they did facing this housing slump. It may not hit San Antonio as hard as it does in other parts of the country, but we will still get hit. In some ways, it will be welcomed; but in others some will feel the pain. Again, ugly; but yet another reality.
I hope all works out well for those in Wolf Creek!
Well a friend and co-worker of mine live there and they love it, they have never complained of their homes, they actually love the area and it has developed a lot. One of my friends has lived thier for over a hear now and her home was appraised at 20 thou more than what she had purchased it at, so they're not "hurting" so to speak, just upset they do not know who the next builder is that will be coming in..... good luck with the search!

I am buying what they call a "spec" home, is this the same thing? I would think I could get something discounted.... price off the home, price off the options/upgrades, lot, something, nothing is discounted.
Thanks to everyone for your feedback, we are still undecided, I am curious to findout if they are going to keep my earnest deposit.

I would ask for confirmation on who will finish out the lots in that subdivision, and if they will finish the community center. See if you can get something in writing. Right now it's a buyers market. Do some shopping before you settle. Take the estimates given to you in writing and let all the builders see them. So they know you are a shopper, and not a quicky.
If a spec home is a model home, then usually it's already loaded with upgrades. So to get it for the base price on their website might be a good thing.
Sounds like you still need to ask the builder a lot of questions.
I own in the Settlers Lake Subdivision. I am afraid of them doing the same to us. Especially since the residents are talking about picketing since they cannot get their warranty work finished. We have only 1/5 of it built and they opened 2 years ago. Yikes.
