Look on the bright side - you do have a Bass Pro Shop, and Austin doesn't. Commerically, you are now in the ranks of Dallas, St. Louis, Auburn, Branson and Clarksville, Indiana. The big time is not far off.......

You are absolutely insane. San Antonio has always had higher end retail stores than Austin. Please let us know what major high end retail store or center was built in Austin 10 years ago. Never mind that is when they built the Domain, my bad.

A small Saks 5th ave. is the only high end store Austin had 10 years ago. They lucked out on Nordstrom, because it was able to replace montgomery ward at Barton Creek, so it opened there first. We got Neiman's first and a full line store. The one in Austin is only what they call a "resort" store. San Antonio also had Marshall Field's 10 years ago, which Austin could only dream of having. Gucci had a very strong San Antonio presence in the 80's at Frost in North Star. After Frost closed they had a full line boutique until Saks upgraded their in store space and made it redundant. Also San Antonio has had a stong history of it's local shops like the Menger Smart Shop or Julian Gold for women, and Satel's for Men. Those three store carry extremely upscale items, like escada, St. John..ect.. and have been around for years, while Indian Panchos were the height of fashion in Austin.

I guess I'm not getting what the big deal is. Why is it so important to have 'high end retail' to define the worth of your city?

Try

The Rim
La Joya
La Cantera

I sure Austin has more than one residential/retail mixed use project.

San Antonio is slowly but surely moving forward in this regard. Remember, things are slower here to take off, but it's getting there.

Firstly, the retail invloved in that development is not anything worth mentioning, a Super Target and Best Buy, that general fare. As for your question: Quarry Village, Rialto Village, Tacara, The Reflection, Park Place, The Rim, La Joya, Legacy, The Landmark.

Last edited by Insomniac; 11-17-2007 at 05:58 PM.. Reason: needed to add Legacy.

I feel the same way, but it is difficult to listen to someone misrepresent the facts. There is always a _______ is better than SA from some people. We would do better to stop the comparisons.
