That is the way I understood it regarding crossing single white lines. A policeman may still pull you over though for crossing it if they think you are driving under the influence.

But he did not only cut across a thick white line he also cut someone off. Reckless driving is against the law.

Cutting some one off(even if it were done on purpose) would not be considered reckless.

Texas Statute Sec. 545.401: Reckless Driving [48] (a) A person commits an offense if the person drives a vehicle in wilful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property.

Well. Interesting. You learn something new every day! In that case, though, why have them at all?

Anyways, I finally got around to driving on that newly opened stretch of 1604 South of Bandera. Here's the video: https://youtu.be/KIYYf4FxVgw

I think the workers did a GREAT job with it!

Not sure how accurate your contention is. Much of what constitutes reckless driving (wilful or wanton) is left to the discretion of the officer. I have a coworker that was cited recently for reckless driving because he changed lanes on I-10E near UTSA, and didn't signal. Didn't cut anyone off, just changed lanes without signalling.

Do you know how many police officers I observe not using turn signals themselves (during normal driving with lights off)??? I guess they should all be cited too. There are so many of them not following this law (as well as citizens) that this law shouldn't even be on the books anymore.

While we are at it, we should make it legal that the right lane is the passing lane while the left lane is the slowpoke lane because that is how it is now.

a few years back I would ride along now and then with an SAPD lifelong friend.

so one evening we're on IH 10 headed south into downtown, approaching 410.

(in his plainly marked police cruiser)

I say - man you need to get over to the left.

he says - I'm trying to. they won't let me.

I say - they don't know you want to. you don't have your turn indicator on.

Turn signal when changing lanes.

Then there are drivers who suddenly apply the turn signal as they change lanes
regardless of the drivers on that lane.

They're used to provide a visual cue to drivers that a lane is a turn lane or exit lane.

Use of turn signals is specifically required by the law:

§545.104 - SIGNALING TURNS; USE OF TURN SIGNALS
(a) An operator shall use the signal authorized by Section 545.106 to indicate an intention to turn, change lanes, or start from a parked position.
(b) An operator intending to turn a vehicle right or left shall signal continuously for not less than the last 100 feet of movement of the vehicle before the turn.

This would have been the more appropriate statute to have cited your co-worker under.
