Good luck getting a place that will take a reservation this late. Some friends of mine are practically having marital problems over this--the hubby says the wife waited too long and vice versa--so now they have to cook for just the two of them. Oh well, there's always Luby's.
(I'd invite them over, but they are decidedly anti-children, and since it's state law that I feed my 11 year old, they lose. )

Try the buffet at the Menger Hotel at Alamo Plaza downtown. I don't know if it's open but probably.

We've been doing the Menger for several years and last year it just seems to have slipped. They didn't even have any pumpkin ice cream! I'm hitting the airport Holiday Inn this year. It lacks the ambiance, but there is more selection and the huge diversity of desserts should please the kids.

I'll second the Golden Corral vote, or at least for Christmas. We went there last year and are definitely going back next year. It was pretty good quality food for the price and the best part was we left when we were done.. no cleaning rules

We will be taking my dad He Golden Corral. He and my husband just love this place. It's not bad, but since our anniversary lands on Thanksgiving this year, it would have been nice to at least go to a nicer buffet. LOL I normally do all, and I mean all of the cooking from the turkey all the way to the homemade pecan and pumkin and apple pies. But, we are in a temp place while our house is being built and my cooking stuff is in storage. We will be in our house by Christmas, so I will to all of the cookin/baking then.
