Does anyone know why the idea of an elevated rail system hasn't been discussed in this thread? I'm no expert, but it seems like it would not require as much demolishing of property.

Monorail was discussed in the aformentioned light-rail thread. Perhaps this thread should be merged with http://www.city-data.com/forum/san-a...ssibility.html

I know not everybody has a car I said that too earlier and also said with the gas prices going up there will be more that will stop driving and depending on a bus.

Elevated rail is more expensive and the Feds would never pay for a heavy rail system in San Antonio. Not sure about a monorail system, but I really doubt that would happen, too.

Perhaps with people being a little more environmentally aware, you will see a larger number of riders, especially during higher traffic times.

Do people outside 1604 even realize that the environment exists. I mean with their rape and pillage the hill country attitude do they care?

No matter where you build your home you tear up the land. I don't know why enviromentalists jump on the those living outside the loop. Inside of 1604 used to be trees and a healthy ecosystem. Now there are a few pocket parks here and there, but mostly businessses and houses. In my opinion you are not a better person toward the enviroment just because you live inside the loop.

Why repeat the mistakes of the past? Also the area outside 1604 is the aquifer recharge zone, unlike areas inside 410. This is BAD for the environment. I think the pic describes it all.
