apparently you are buying gas at the current rate, get a card and well when gas goes up your saving.

Either way good business venture for those folks, it's a gamble but hey!

I could swear I saw something about this yesterday... someone said they had a hard time finding places that would take the card from whatever prepaid thing they used to be with, eventually having to drive 20 miles to the nearest station.

The locations of stations that take the cards is the hardest problem to overcome. If you can get a guarantee that stations in your driving area are going to take it for an extended period of time, the the $29.95 membership fee is worth it.

We use Costco gas. It is always 5-10 cents a gallon cheaper than anything else. Since we fill up our two cars at least once a week we save $3-4 a week, which translates to over $150 a year. Since the Costco membership only costs $50 it works out great. The problem is you have to go to Costco whenever you need gas. Since it's on the way home from work for both of us and only 10 mins from our house it's not a problem. Otherwise it might not be worth the hassle.

I just shop at the cheapest place along my route. As gas prices increase it makes less sense to drive out of your way for gas. Five cents per gallon discount will be eaten up by driving 1.5 miles out of your way. (50 cents in savings for a 10-gallon fill-up is 1/8 of a gallon. That's a savings of only 3 miles per tank, so driving 1.5 miles out of your way and back negates any savings.)

Errrr....if you are getting 20 MPG and paying $4/gal a gas, each mile costs you 20¢. 1.5 miles would cost you 30¢ to drive. If you buy 20 gallons of gas, a 5¢ savings per gallon equates to a total savings of $1. So even if you add the round trip of 3 miles, you still come out ahead by 40¢. Multiply that by 52 weeks, it's still over $20 a year, or 5 free gallons of gas or 100 more miles!

If you are filling up your tank when it is only half empty, you are wasting gas. One gallon of gasoline equals 5.8-6.5 lbs, so a 20-gallon tank would equate to roughly 120 lbs, and gets lighter as it runs dry. If you are filling it up at 60 lbs instead of running it lower, you are always hauling around that extra weight. It is the same logic to removing any unncessary items from your car. All that poundage only makes your car run harder and costs more gas...
