Where to go for New Years Eve?
We are from CA and moved here last summer, and though we luv it, the nightlife is very different than what we are used to. I have all my sisters and their significant others coming for the Holiday. What is there to do on New Years for late twenty-somethings? Is the DT party at Hemisphere a collegesque pukefest with turkey legs and trash everywhere (I don't want NIOSA, part Deux)?
Where can we go that we can wear party dresses and celebrate new years in style, but also get fabulously drunk? I luv DT and the darling Riverwalk, but there is no info online about some of the lounge/clubs in the area with NY Eve parties? Acenar/Vbar? Can you just go into any bar, or do you have to get tickets?
I would appreciate any links or suggestions!

Azuca has a New Year's party and a great view of the tower. La Frite has a set menu and party for NYE with a great atmosphere, although a bit less 'trendy' than Azuca.
We just have a party at our house, with a great view of the tower fireworks

You will start seeing more places advertising their New Years events as we get in to December.
I tend to party at someone's house, but if I were wanting the whole bar scene, this is what I would do: call some of the places on or near the River and ask for their bottle service coordinator and see what they have going on. I'd call Swig, V Bar, Acenar, Mad Dogs,Zen Bar, Suede those sort of places. Or, if you want to skip downtown but still get dressed up, I'd call some of the lounges - Posh, Dolce, Swig North, etc., and do the same thing. If you book this early you will probably get first pick of tables.

To bed early...I am working New Years Day.
But if I were to go out, think we would rent a room downtown and enjoy the riverwalk scene from our balcony with a great bottle of wine!

If you want a place that's a little more "chill", check out Maroc ( Maroc Bar - San Antonio, Texas). My daughter has been going there and really enjoys it. I'd think they'd have a nice NYE celebration (althought apparently they alternate open nights with Rio, so........)

I have spent new years at V-Bar (stayed for the night as well). IF you like V-bar normally, you will like it for New Years (IMO). It was not necessary to get tickets.
