Y'all are quite welcome. It took no more than a phone call and a little curiosity. The phrase "grand plaza'' gave me pause. They're big south of the border and in Europe but not so much here in the states. Maybe the journey started here but wound up elsewhere. I was surprised that the people at the McNay referenced CD because the person I talked didn't know we existed. Yay for us !!!

^^^ Not sure... where in the reply they referenced CD??
Their reply came back just an hour after you called and is pretty vague. Did they really dropped what they were doing and went out to compare the sculptures, or just wrote a courtesy letter? ...
I really wish the OP come back and give us more info...

However, we went ahead and compared the photo to our two figures, and unfortunately, we can’t quite make it match up – the bases, for example, are not quite the same, and we can’t seem to make the drapery folds match, although that could be an issue of the angle or the graininess of the photo.

To us, that photograph does not look like San Antonio, and no one here knows of any large fountain or grand plaza like what appears in that image. Is it possible that the honeymooners started in San Antonio then traveled on to Mexico? It certainly looks more like something one might see in, for example, Mexico City.

I sent them no picture and no link so somebody got on a computer and looked up CD and the thread. It seems some research was done on the statues. I don't think this was exactly a courtesy letter. They answered the questions I asked. And yes it seems someone took the time to do something... How long were you expecting the research to take ?? With their computers and database it was probably done in twenty minutes. You're right, until the OP gives more info we'll never know...

I think they probably went outside to see the real sculptures there. The sculptures are just few steps down their office, by the fountain...

I FOUND IT! It is the Plaza De Armes fountain in Saltillo Mexico. Fuente Plaza de Armas | Flickr - Photo Sharing! Well, maybe not, but damn close!

OK well maybe it is Saltillo after all. It appears from the photo in this link that the fountain must have been redone in the past and made taller, but preserving some of the original elements. SALTILLO DEL RECUERDO: LOS PORTALES EN LA PLAZA DE ARMAS, SALTILLO...!!!
