"We also have to plan for the future. Just as the drug wars will not last forever, neither will the border between us and Mexico or the one between us and Canada".

"Also it could be easier to build a bi-national rail than one solely in Texas or connecting us to any other adjoining state".

How do you figure this ??

Are you saying the demand for a high speed rail to Mexico exceeds the demand for high speed rail within the state?

No, just that two countries working together could get more done on some fronts than a single state or country working alone.

That will not happen in the future considering how 9/11 has impacted homeland security. The borders will stay.

I love the part that says " All we need to start construction is the money to pay for it"

Another bird-brained idea by a bird-brained politician.
Lord please No!!! We have enough of those rich Mexicans here already, unless it could be a one-way ticket from SA to Monterrey.

It could work and be economically sound. I am curios how much a tourist from Monterrey spends in SA compared to one from Austin, DFW, or Houston.

Folks from MTY certainly do a lot more shopping in SA than inter-state tourist do. An inter-state tourist might just spend a weekend in a hotel and eat at a few restaurants.

Although they might be bigger spenders, they get their sales tax refunded to them, while other visitors don't.

We had an influx of wealthy Mexican nationals during the Revolution and following Cristero conflict. Many of them returned when Mexico became stable again. That will likely repeat itself.

Then again those times were segregated and they stayed in the West side in an enclave separate even from the local Mexicans.

This time their children attend SAA and SMH so maybe more will stay.
