Our airport is wayyyyyyyyy too small to deal with the kind of traffic you would get from disney being located here. Think about that people. Fix that problem then you could get disney. It boggles me how people overlook simple stuff and just assume.

I've changed my mind about the Disney rumour. It used to annoy me, but it's such a survivor! Every time it gets brought up, it gets knocked right back down again, but there it is, good as new, every few weeks. That sort of longevity says something. I don't know whether it says something about mass delusion or the human need to believe in the totally unproven, but it says something.

The airport is being expanded as we speak, with an additional terminal and lengthened runways to accommodate larger planes (meaning, more direct flights).
This doesn't in and of itself mean disney will come here, but it does address the problem you mentioned.

I bet they are going to build the Disney Park between the new Ford Plant and the GMC plant.
That should be a big shot to the southside. Right there on Military Drive by Brooks City Base.
The rumors never stop and get bigger by the day.

San Antonio sees about 21 million visitors a year. Granted some of those visitors drive rather than fly. It's my guess that a majority of those visitors fly to S.A.
How do you figure that our airport is wayyyyyyy to small? And what kind of traffic are you expecting if Disney were to build a theme park here?

Our airport is too small - that is why it is currently under expansion! New terminal, lengthened runways and new parking structures.

I swore I wouldn't comment on this Disney thing. But the desperation of some people in actually thinking (1) it's possible here and (2) it's a good thing prompts me. It has reached the status of an urban legend in many many cities across America - Disney is coming to THEIR town. Some people see some kind of salvation and status in having Disney come to their cities and , apparently, are quite verbal and intense about it.
Service jobs are good for students but they don't do much for the great majority of people.....especially those with others to support. Companies that require a work force that possesses high skills and an education are where it's at. It is those companies we want to bring in. Most importantly, SA needs a work force already in place that is educated with high skills. Should those companies decide to relocate here, they don't have to bring practically the whole population of another state (like CA) in with them to fill those jobs. A bit of exaggeration there but you get my point. Our city is more than well-populated at the moment and it's getting ugly.
Disney.......it's a fantasy land. Let's get real. Let's raise the bar on what we expect our populace to achieve. We're certainly not the only ones, but our drop out rate is a scandal.
Rant off. Enjoy the day!

Gotta chime in here, whether or not Disney is even thinking of SA for a new park. When Disney opened its first park (Disneyland) in Anaheim, there was nothing there but orange groves and empty space. The closest airports were Long Beach (a teensy airport) and Orange County Airport (aka John Wayne Airport), which was also tiny. LAX was a long drive. So I don't buy the airport issue as a deterent to Disney--if they want to build something here.
To the positive, San Antonio has land. The summer is hot, but lots of visitors like hot weather. The winters are fairly moderate. Disneyland in S.A. would draw visitors from other large cities in Texas, as well as from Mexico, and foreigners, as well, who are infatuated with the stories of the old Wild West, with Texas figuring into that scene. We're not far from the Gulf, either.
San Antonio is on the radar already as a tourist destination city. The land here is still reasonable; the wages are lower than in other large cities; the people who would work at Disneyland would be warm and friendly, and many bi-lingual.
When Disney moved into Anaheim, there was a Knotts Berry Farm tourist attraction (we've got Six Flags and Sea World, plus the amazingly beautiful Riverwalk).
As for traffic? My cynical observation is that Greed equals Speed in putting in the required roads, and so forth.
Again, I don't know that Disney has even given SA a thought, but I don't think it is a wild idea that a park would be built here.
My two cents...
