That might be the reason we hear of so many rumors.

When I was in Houston in July, I heard rumors of how Disney had bought thousands of acres near Katy. And then when I went to SA a few days later, I heard the same rumors about Disney-purchased land in SA.

I still say if they were gonna build a park, they'd follow the same strategy they used for Disney World: Buy property under dummy corporations. It makes no sense to pay alot for land knowing that it's Disney. If it were my land i'd jack the price sky-high knowing Disney was looking into buying my property.

The Disney rumor in San Antonio has been going around since the 70s and 80s. Same rumor in Houston near Katy as was mentioned above. It still sounds good b/c the reasoning was that Texas is halfway between the two existing parks. Also, another rumor I had always heard was that if Disney did come to SA, it would be along some of the empty ranch land off the future Hwy 211 near Potranco and straddling the Bexar/Medina county lines. Something to think about also...just recently, a very large land transaction involving close to a couple thousand acres was finalized and sold on the west side of Hwy 211 across from Briggs Ranch north of Hwy 90.

I agree..we'd never know Disney was coming b/c of all the different names they'd use on the land purchases. Most folks in Orlando were clueless including city officials b/c Disney used the pseudonym "M.T. Lott" (empty lot) to gather up thousands of acres at dirt rate prices..but once word got out, he used other names including "Ms. M. Mouse" to let folks finally know what he had planned to build on all that land.

Disney did buy land near my house.. I'm personally hoping for a resort hotel at least. Even that would be good for my property values. The land I'm speaking of is less than 6 miles from Sea World and about 9 from Fiesta (AKA Six Flags). I will look into it and get back to the forum when I can find more data. This might take a while though. Nowadays dummy corporations can be traced fairly easily. I don't have any info on that several thousand acre pruchase this one I believe is only about 1-2k thousand acres (No where near enough for a park, but maybe a resort to conicide with a park). We'll all lnow when the dust settles and I'll be laughing all the way to the bank. I really like my new house, but I would like 2X plus what I payed for it in only 5 years better.

One more thing a 1766 acre plot near Helotes is going to be ~3500 upscale suburban homes. So at least some thinks the area is worth building. That property was originally a ranch. Here's a link to the local news story:

^^210..that looks like a terrific comprehensive map. I have quite a few maps myself but I'd love to see something more like that in depth covering most of the growing west and nw side of SA. Can you post more of it or provide a link where it can be studied? Thanks!

I must say that I would not want to buy a house that I hoped to spend the rest of my life in only to find out that it neighbors land purchased by Disney. It's one thing to own land in that vicinity (which you could probably sell for commercial purposes at a tidy sum) but to own a house is another thing.

I cannot imagine living close to an amusement park - traffic in every direction would be horrendous. I wouldn't want to live near scores of hotels and motels either. The area around Disneyland in Anaheim is less than desireable, IMHO. I would assume only the same thing would happen around to the areas surrounding another Disney park.

Default Disney

My understanding is a holding co. bought the 800 or so acre ranch located at 211 and hwy 90 and the holding company bought it for Disney. I have heard this from several difference people. There is a 1000 unit time share, a water park, and a shopping area with a 300 room hotel planned for the other side of 211 some of it part of Briggs and the golf club of Texas. They have already started on the time share and have been selling the time shares for a while.

That would be believable, but where would the actual park go? There is not enough room in the 211/Potranco area for a Disney theme park? Is there? maybe I am wrong
