I would think (and I believe 940 touched on this) that it's being built that way because of the expansion (current and future) of 1604.

Default Walmart Supercenter at Loop 1604 & Potranco

Thanks 940 and 210. I looked at the schematic in the link and it looks like everything is going as planned (I didn't notice the Walmart...focused on the Potranco Village part). However, I don't think it will be any time soon they will expand Loop 1604 in that area. What a disaster the current expansion is...already 2 years behind schedule! Last I heard about the widening project was it would be done by Nov 2006 or February 2007. At the rate their going, maybe the 2007 year should be 2008? My guess is that the construction company has moved on to another scheduled project and only works on this when they have time.

Every morning, I have an extremely difficult time getting out of my subdivision because the construction workers decided to use that part to enter to work on the walmart. I can’t stand it because not only does it take away those very small chances of vehicles to leave our subdivision, there is dust everywhere making you need to wash your vehicle on a more regular basis. I think that they chose that part because eventually there will be a light there. I know that another light will suck but hey, it took me over 10 minutes to get out. 10 minutes!! That is a long time to wait to just get out of your subdivision.

I hope I'm wrong but I thought I had read something somewhere that the expansion of 1604 from Culebra south to Hwy 90 was going to be dependent on toll revenues once they begin to be collected. Of course I read where tolling some of the roads there isn't a foregone conclusion quite yet. I sure hope they aren't waiting for that money b/c it could be a long time before those 8 or so miles of 1604 are expanded then.

And I did see where there will be a light at your neighborhood entrance SA Greed(I'm guessing I know which one you're talking about) b/c eventually there will be a road that will cut through all that development across Potranco past the new apts (Potranco Ranch) and the Walmart, etc and connect at 1604 south of it all.

I feel for you. They closed West Creek Oaks a couple of weeks ago to tie in with the infamous Loop 1604 expansion. Now I spend an extra 5 minutes getting in/out of our subdivision to Loop 1604 as everyone uses Military Drive West now.

I was just wondering what the best places for coffee/breakfast are in this area? Also, can anyone recommend a good place to buy area rugs? As long as I'm asking, how about a good dentist? He/she would need to take United Concordia. Thanks!

I pulled up the architectural print for Potranco Village (area being built behind Bill Miller's BBQ) and besides having Academy Sports and Outdoors officially listed as one of the larger leases in the development, they've also redrawn some of the proposed buildings to be leased near the Academy. The long mentioned Chili's restaurant is now drawn in facing 1604 just to the south of where the church is located.

I like Pei Wei too..Chili's does look small but I'm sure it'll be the size of most every other one..they seem to all be very similar in every detail. My mom says that the sign is up for Madison's Market and that they're clearing land closer to Caracol now which is probably part of the development. I'm sure that doesn't help with the traffic and your ability to get out of your neighborhood, SA Greed...
