Anyone notice the "new, new" electric power line metal poles being installed on the North side of Potranco (outside Loop 1604)? They are pretty close to the giant "new" poles that go on North pass Hwy 16. These poles look similar to the ones built along Potranco before you get to SH151, before Potranco was widened to 5 lanes a while back. Are they preparing to widen Potranco outside Loop 1604? Last I heard it won't happen until around 2010.

The only thing that I am noticing is ALL the traffic in this area. I am amazed at the amount of cars on Potranco around 5:00, and just how stupid some of the drivers are who actually block the intersection of Potranco and Rousseau, so they can wait to get through the next light at 1604. I'm beginning to think that maybe it was better when we had to drive somewhere else to do all our business, and then escape back to our quiet corner of the world.

Looks like they might be building a substation across from Redbird Ranch. Thats where the new poles end up.
FYI everyone, the speed limit on Most parts of Potranco is 60 not 35. Thanks

60 mph on most of Potranco? What part of Potranco would that be? I can only imagine outside 1604. If anyone is doing 60 inside 1604, I'm staying off the road!

I can't help but notice SO many of our comments are about food joints. Pizza, cupcakes, Starbucks, burgers, etc.... No wonder San Antonio is such a 'fat' city. It opened my eyes. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm guilty too - I ran out to the new Pei Wei for dinner last night after reading here it was open (by the way, it was ok - nothing special. The noise inside was deafening. I will be ordering 'to go' from now on). I'm going to give serious attention to having a more balanced outlook on what's important! As to all the construction goin gon ---- I'd love to see more places to get involved in physical activites for kids and adults such as dance studios, karate, gymnastics - perhaps some of those MANY strip malls will house such businesses??? A music studio would be nice too - piano lessons anyone? And wouldn't a YMCA be nice - all the ammenities w/o the commercialism of gym memberships - and our kids could have a good summer camp program, swim classes, sports programs, etc.... That's probably too much to ask tho.... Well, I can dream. OK, off I go to ride my new exercise bike!

I agree with Robin... and there is NO place on Potranco that I would drive 60! What cracks me up are the people who just HAVE to pass on the right... I have watched twice as drivers ran off in the ditch b/c the shoulder just ended. Serves them right. People need to slow down and allow more time to get where they are going... in Westcreek I constantly have people riding my tail and I refuse to go over the speedlimit... too many kids on bike, loose dogs, construction, etc.
I also agree with you about the physical activity thing... we came from Colorado and everyone-- of all ages and sizes-- walked or jogged. I rarely see people in Westcreek... once in awhile you will see joggers and you can tell it's probably military folks who seem to make it more of a priority to stay active. The humidity here is hard to take, though.
Lastly, I'm going to try again on this one... nobody has anwered so far... what is going on where they have cleared behind the Valero at Potranco/1604? The sign they put up by the Kohl's leads me to believe it will eventually have more shops there, too.

Actually, if you go outside of 1604 on Potranco, just past Talley Rd, the speed limit is 65. I too have noticed the metal utility posts but they've been there for a while now. I took a drive to Redbird Ranch yesterday and noticed a sprawling subdivision. For a while I thought it was going to be at exactly Hwy 211 and Potranco but I was mistaken. Its still about 1 to 2 miles up the road. Its funny seeing how DR Horton stopped building homes right on the edge of Bexar county.

If you notice, I'm not disputing what the speed limit IS... I'm only saying I won't drive that fast... I almost got hit by a huge concrete truck pulling out slowly from Bella Vista... and I was going 60 then.

I drove through Westcreek the other day and loved the fact that its only a one lane street on each way. It reminded me of that Goofy cartoon where he is driving through a nice stretch of road and he's calmed and relaxed and as soon as he gets to the city or he catches up to traffic, and all hell breaks loose. That's what happens when you hit 1604, lol.

I'm going to make a post sometime today detailing everything going up off Potranco and 211. It's quite amazing what's under construction and planned for far west Bexar.

Thanks Insomniac. That would clarify a lot of stuff. I've been looking for those links for a while now, i know saw them before in this thread.
