My Wife and I are looking into relocating to Austin or San Antonio in the spring. What are the best neighborhoods for a couple in there 50's but also have a disabled adult son who will be joining us.

Honestly, almost any neighborhood in San Antonio will work for a middle-aged married couple; you need to be a bit more specific as to what requirements you are looking for in a place to live, price range, where you'll be working, etc.

As for your son, have you contacted the ARC of San Antonio? They may be able to help out!

And welcome to SA!

Cheers! M2

Do you need to work, retired or maybe just wealthy?

Just wanted to say that my husband and I are also a middle-aged couple moving very soon to San Antonio. I started this thread about our upcoming move:
Moving to San Antonio

We're not quite ready for a 55-and-older community, but would prefer not to be completely surrounded by 30-somethings with babies and toddlers. We're looking online at anything within about 20 minutes of the 1604/281 intersection. Tomorrow we head to San Antonio for a long weekend of looking at houses with a relocation realtor.

I'll keep you posted!

Not cool to hijack others' thread. Good luck though.

Majormax is right -- there are a lot of neighborhoods that will fit your needs. Most newbies settle in the North/ Northwestern parts of the city. Some areas include Stone Oak, Alamo Ranch, Castle Hills, Helotes. Since everything in SA is car-driven, what you don't find in your local area, you will drive to. Everyone does that.

I grew up in SA and still have a house there, but it is closer to downtown, inside Loop 410 (Alamo Heights, Terrell Heights, Northwood). I do not ever live outside the Loop. But that is me. Many of these homes are older and some people do not want to mess with them. I totally understand.

BTW....I think the other thread mentioned is a good one. I'm not offended by "thread stealing." This is an informational forum. Best of luck with the move!

Was that directed at me?

I'm in the same situation as the OP, looking for a neighborhood where middle aged couples would enjoy living. How was anything I said "hijacking" his thread??

My wife and I will both be looking for employment as an accountant and mid level administrative manager. How ever we plan on renting to learn about the area before we buy. What is the job market like for a 50 something couple?
