Barking dog in Stonecreek - outside city limits....what to do???
We have been having lots of problems with our neighbors' dogs barking at night and waking us up at all hours. The neighbors leave the dogs out 24 hours a day and they bark at everything! We have spoken twice with the neighbors directly and they have been less than accomodating. We contacted the neighborhood association and they will send a courtesy letter regarding the regulations/expectations of the community regarding dogs. Apart from that, the person at the HOA said we may not be able to do much else since we're outside city limits (literally a stone's throw from city limits...)
We just moved to the area and are wondering if Bexar county would do something about this???? The worst thing is that this one of the dogs is a big rotweiler that was wandering in the neighborhood and animal contral was trying to catch it until the neighbors decided that it would be a great pet (and would be good for security? Too bad it barks at everything and they don't even notice - some security system!!!)
I feel we've been patient and fair but are really frustrated. We have an infant who is constantly being woken (even with the use of white noise in her room) and I'm running on very little sleep! Any help you could provide would be great....thanks

If it were me, and the dog kept waking our infant after several talks with "less than accommodating" neighbors, the dog would disappear one day...just disappear. End of story.
The "less than accommodating neighbor" gets my goat. If they truly understand the problem, and make an effort to lessen said problem, then I would definitely work with them towards a solution.
If not, dog disappears.

haha....my husband thought about that already! I just wouldn't feel right about punishing the dogs, though...if they would just pull them inside at night....we'd be fine with that.....
I feel really bad for the animals...like I said, one was a stray and one is old and blind.....
We are considering buying an ultrasonic dog bark deterrer (i don't thinkthat's the proper name for it but it's all i can come up with it after very little sleep...) Basically, when the dog barks, it emits a high frequency sound that is supposed to deter the dog from barking. Only dogs can hear it. We'll see if it works.
I'm still curious to find out if anyone can give other suggestions re: what Bexar county can/will do....

I clicked on this link generated by the thread topic, Safer Life Starts Here! - SafeHomeProducts.com and there seems to be some products that you can buy that might help. I know it shouldn't cost you money to get their dogs to stop barking, but it may be a viable solution if you can't get any relief some other way. Good luck, your baby must be exhausted.
(it looks like you can just click the "go" button in the top left section of the site, and it will take you directly to the barking dogs section)

I checked on the site for bark deterrent and it appears the device needs to be in clear sight of the dog, within 50 feet. None of the devices will penetrate wood fences or concrete. It needs to be placed in the yard with the offending dog..
The only way to have it work would be to buy it and give it to the "less than accomadating" neighbors and ask them to use it. I doubt that would happen and it's a bit expensive to have someone not use it, or chance having it thrown back at you.
I think the dog needs to disappear.

OK. That's 3 votes for the offending dog to "disappear". Me, your husband and ShaneSA.
Now, for the method....I say he gets "dog-napped" and driven over the border. Kick him out of the truck on the Mexican side. You have to make sure this sucker has no way of getting home. Ever.

Wasn't that a Seinfeld episode?
There was a thread on barking dogs not too long ago which had some pretty good suggestions.
Cheers! M2

Ever think of why this dog was previously a stray? He's probably from Dallas (and who knows where before that) and was dog-napped down here to SA for the very same reason. Drive him the rest of the way to Mexico.
