Don't like it. There are existing laws on the books, if they need to be changed then let's debate why. I wonder how elected officials feel/think they can ignore current law(s) with impunity when they swore an oath to uphold the laws of the land...

Because we've LET them do it for so many years. The party in charge (both parties) will NEVER do the right thing unless their own supporters DEMAND it. They couldn't care less about the what the OTHER party thinks.

For some reason, the OP didn't think it would be helpful to supply some local context to justify discussing this in a local forum. Here is an article with some background on the subject.

That this happened on Twitter makes me take none of this serious. I mean, really... Politicians bickering back and forth on important issues through TWITTER? 140 characters is vapid enough, but let's leave it to the kids like Beiber and Gaga.

Moderator cut: Comment is removed. We don't need the rude, obscene or implied obscene words/comments

Well that clear things up for me. It felt so random at first.

Thank you.

It's funny how some politicians like Castro claim that someone who is anti-illegal-immigration is anti-immigration! There is a huge difference that seems to escape them.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on "immigration"...

Is there a recall provision in San Antonio for elected officials that violate their oath of office? We have to get these kinds of people out of positions of power up to and including the White House..

Kind of true - they will never do the right thing unless their FINANCIAL backers demand it. Keep in mind that the agricultural industry has a huge stake in maintaining low labor costs.

But in reality, there's no difference.

Most people who are against illegal immigration are also against bilingual education, for "English Only" laws, etc. In other words, they are against measures that help legal immigrants, too. And they're very selective in who they oppose. They don't care that Russians speak Russian, or that Poles speak Polish, or that Greeks speak Greek. But let them hear people speaking Spanish, and all hell breaks loose!

In my experience, 99% of people who say they are anti-illegal immigrant are just really anti-Mexican, period. They just don't want to admit it.
