I think your best answer. If you don't have one, you won't be able to procure funds. Nor would you be taken seriously by most in a position to collaborate. It's essential. Personally, when my wife and I developed our family business, we hired a consultant to help. Best investment we ever made.

The life you live is how ever you make it, there are several things you can do on your own with out much money to start up with, but all of it takes a tremendous amounts of work, unless you have tremendous amounts of cash or know some one who will finance it. As far as places to congregate with like minds, colleges and SBA are two good starting places.
