Actually, our technical infrastructure is perfect for Google Fiber. Unlike Austin and Kansas City, the poles that Google would need to use are almost wholly owned by one company (CPS).

This would alleviate costly/lengthy lawsuits from AT&T/Verizon poles that have already been problematic in other Google Fiber rollout cities.

Well a lot of the infrastructure seems to be there. And $79.95 for 20Mbps download.... Really?

yep. but since there really isnt an infrastructure here, that might work to their advantage. lawsuits galore in austin with google vs utility companies. they argue that since google isnt a telecom or some junk, they cant use the poles. if SA is smart, they will just let google build their own or use the poles.

the wife and i have already agreed to move wherever google fiber does, should it come to SA. more than willing to pay the 300 fee for lifetime free 5/1 net and then get a 70$ gigabit line on top of that

...And CPS Energy is owned by the City of San Antonio.

Now it's one more step closer than that.

Permission granted. Ball is in Google's court to get it rolling here.

I wonder if Google would have to hammer out similar agreements with all of the suburban municipalities in the San Antonio area (Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, Leon Valley, etc.), if they are to provide service within those cities' limits?

i know itll never happen, but this would be a good excuse to bring up getting rid of all the 'cities within cities' crap that SA has going on. no reason for there to be one big city called SA, then a few smaller cities within that large city. would also get rid of the small town cop forces (which is a good thing).

i can dream i know

There will be some politics with this, Google made a $250 million dollar investment into Uber and right now the Chief of Police and the taxi companies are trying to squash Uber and Lyft in the city. If this happens you can bet anything Google will bypass San Antonio. If we want Google Fiber we have to make nice with Google, including their investments.
