What's going to hurt us is all the new construction in our neighborhood. We are still considered rural, and the land is less expensive here partial because we were hit so hard with oak Wilt. So these people are coming in and building these expensive homes that just raise our taxes. My home is 23 years old and we built it our self's. Board by board, just us. Never owed a dime on it and it took forever. It's going to get to the point of where we cant afford to live in our own home someday because of the tax increases.

Up $40K. Again. They can't tax us on that much of an increase, but they tax us on the max. Every freaking year. Back to protest. I blame the yabbos who are listing their flippers for insane amounts, only to sell for less than half or let them sit on the market for 2 years...

I've got five properties. ALL went up (between 4% and 11%).

Have already mailed my protest b/c none of them were eligible for an online protest.

This is the widest swath of unsubstantiated increases I've seen in seven years.

Protest, people.

I am sure the longtime residents of Helotes is saying the same about anyone that moved there the last 20 years or so.

It's not the fact that there are new homes. I accept that. It's that they tax them the same. It doesn't matter that they have the higher end interiors, it's the square feet they go by. Your not going to convince me that you can sell a 20 plus year old home for the same as a newer one just because they are the same size.

I see your point. I think new homes just sell quicker and easier because most transplants want "new and shiney" homes instead of homes that someone else lived in before. It may drive up the price artifically of the whole neighborhood until they run out of new home inventory.
