Agreed. There's no need to be a total jerk about what the OP is asking.

Mi Tierra, whether folks like it or not, is one of the longest standing and most successful eateries in the city.

But it's lousy. Lots of tourists get sent there because "it's the thing to do." Other restaurants get similar recommendations not for quality, but because the people suggesting it don't know anything else exists. I can't tell you how many friends have come to town for a conference and their hotel concierge sends them to yet another lousy RW restaurant.

By all means go if that's what the OP really wants, but in case they're yet another one whose well-meaning guide pointed them there for lack of knowledge of anything else, it's worth it to point out that there are other options.

So many great food options in this city, I hate to see a tourist leave disappointed due to lousy restaurants.

But it's not "lousy" to a lot of folks, and in fact, it's tradition...an experience for many, local or otherwise. Even Texas Monthly agrees... Joy of Mex: San Antonio | Texas Monthly

So for the haters, recommend another place downtown. We thought the kids might like the whimsy of Mi Tierra.

I'm in agreement with most of the other members that Mi Tierra is just so-so.

I really enjoy Rosario's for Mexican food, but my other choice if you want to have a bit of scenery beforehand/afterwards would be Acenar (on the Riverwalk). Definitely get their Chocolate Mousse for dessert.

It's one meal out of thousands. I would go and enjoy the time spent with your kids. The bakery alone is going to make them happy to look at. Little kids aren't going to appreciate Rosarios or Feast or places like that. Check that....Most kids aren't going to. I'm sure "some" kids do. Before she chimes in on that.

Have fun and let us know how it went.

I enjoy La Margarita more then Mi Tierra, but eat wherever you want. A lot of people will say Rosario's, but I'll take Tito's any day over Rosario's. I think Chapala Jalisco on Mccullough beats anyplace in and around downtown for Tex-Mex.

Default People,

People who don't know anything else exists in San Antonio other than Mi Tierra's? Who in the hell
might that be that has no idea anything else exists here, locally for dinner ?
In a city famed for it's Tex-Mex food, who'd have thunk other options might even exist ? These people lacking judgement must even lack any common sense or memory. I guess Mi Tierra's must be a greasy spoon restaurant. Send in Channel Four. Conditions for botulism might even be favorable.
A disappointed and hungry tourist is a worst case scenario for sure. By all means condemn the building. It is the least we could do for future unsuspecting visitors to our fair city.
All of those years of restaurant success downtown , it must be a fluke, and soon, must to come to an end, this defrauding of innocent tourists.
Even MiTierra's Margueritas are horrid. The bakery is bad too, the bread stale.
There is a sucker born every minute however and they are de-planing every minute all to be sucked in by naive tourguides...
From this day forward I will warn any tourists or locals about the horrid, Mi Tierras.
It might even have a negative effect on San Antonio's reputation as a tourist destination. Tourism might even end.

Absolutely.

FYI to the OP, there's no kid's meal at Rosario's...trust me, I know.

As an aside, the new gal on KSAT was just at Mi Tierra doing a whole fun segment on it as well as a handful of other San Antonio things to do, so...um...just sayin'

Not a huge fan of Rosario's myself, as it's another tourist restaurant that everyone gets sent to. Good margaritas and salsa, but the rest, meh, though they do have kids' meals (I don't bother to take my kids there tho - too loud). With kids I'd go to Tito's.

I prefer Acenar, El Mirador (also an historic staple) and Cascabel (more interior Mexican than Tex-Mex tho so food is very different if you're expecting typical Tex Mex and their hours are sketchy). There's also a good Tex Mex on Flores St, near City Hall...can't recall it's name, but there's no atmosphere.

Have fun! And enjoy the wait at Mi Tierra, plan for an hour unless you get lucky, since all the other tourists are there too!

(Other RW staples that all the tourists get sent to that I think are way over rated: Boudro's and Mexican Manhattan)
