Hi everyone, my husband and I are looking to relocate to the New Braunfels area. I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind helping...

1. Where should we rent? We want to rent a nice duplex somewhere in a nice area before buying a home.
2. I teach elementary school... is it difficult to find a teaching position in that area?
3. Any good daycare recommendations?

Your input is much appreciated!
Allison

I don't have any input on daycares of rentals (although I say anywhere close to the river is where I would live ) but as far as schools you may want to open yourself up to surrounding areas outside of NBISD. Comal ISD, Hays CISD and Schertz Cibolo Universal City are within those areas. We have an abundance of teachers in the area and it seems to me (as a non-teacher) that it is a bit tough to break into the district.

Hi Allison, cost wise you can check affordability here: San Antonio Affordability Atlas - 2014 - Fixr (make sure you enter your occupation and your husband's as well as other details).

You may also want to check crime rate: http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime...nio-Texas.html as well.

For a rental, we'd like to spend $1,500 and under.

Not sure about employement at the school district. They all have websites so just check all the school districts listed. Schertz _Cibolo-Universal City is building a new elementary school.Don't know if it will be ready for the start of the 2014-2015 school year or not.
Not sure what the price of rentals apartment or other wise is there. Not sure on day care either in the area or in say Schertz. There are several in Schertz like Mary's Little Lambs and a few others. The Schertz Baptist Church runs a daycare or kinder program. We here have a new YMCA, library and several parks. There are also several parks in Cibolo as well.
You may want to check out the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce for information .They might have something on the schools and other things. You will need a car to get around.San Antonio has public transportation, none i know of except maybe taxi cabs around this area. There are various things for families to do. There is a magazine called SA for Kids which lists activities etc.for families. You might also check out Zillow and Trulia for information about renting duplexas in New Braunfels and even the price of homes there.

Thank you. Some school districts are tough to get into. Mine is a 'good 'old boy' network, so I had to go to the next county over to get hired. I was just curious if it was the same there. It seems like there are many schools there, and that wouldn't be much of an issue.

As for rentals, are there dangerous areas to stay away from? Or is all of New Braunfels relatively nice?

Yes, there are many more schools...but there are also many more teachers...there's no shortage. It can take years to secure a job, depending. Are you willing to sub for some time?

Yes I'm willing to sub. But what makes you say "years" to secure a job? Just curious...were you or family teachers in that area?
