Default I've decided to move from Colorado to Texas but...where?

Hi:
I am getting very frustrated that I can't find a town that I can call home. Colorado's economy is fair..job market...poor. I've done so much research to find cities that has affordable rentals, low unemployment rate, low crime, jobs, entertainment, restaurants, art community(if possible)traffic(nothing like dallas/ft worth)which I traveled through last year. I would really prefer a small town... people friendly...
I'm single female (over 2l)that is considering San Antonio. I think I would prefer not to rent an apartment but to rent in a private residential home.
Can anybody give me suggestions if San Antonio would be a good place to call 'home'?
thanks.
swoozie

Default AH area

I moved to San Antonio almost 2 years ago and like the city, but you have to be careful where you live especially if you want to live in an apartment. The crime rate is high here and I would recommend living in the Alamo Heights or Olmos Park area. It is expensive, but much much safer than other areas. They each are "cities" within San Antonio and have their own police departments.

I'm not sure what you're basing your "high crime rate" statistic on. SA is pretty average as far as crime goes. In fact, some days you could call the evening news boring, which is good.

The Heights and Olmos are beautiful, but "more expensive" is an incredible understatement.

Here's what you should know. SA has several military bases and has always been a military town. Many people in the military either begin their career here and move on from there, or come through on a tour of duty. What's amazing is the amount of people that retire from the military and move back to SA, because out of all the places they've lived, this feels most like home.

Default Crime in San Antonio

The biggest crime here in San Antonio area is theft. Cars, if you leave something inside in plain sight in a large parking lot (mall), then it can be stolen. Houses, if you leave your garage open all day, then someone could go inside and remove something. Best advice is to protect your belongings. Here is the SAPD web site with crime statistics for 2005/2006:

There is not a better place in the country to live than right here in SA there is alot of activitys to do with children(Fiesta Texas,Sea World ect.) The economy is also booming here. Also a big plus for our city is we have very affordable housing so if you were interested in purchasing that is also an option and if you want to rent there is also a big rental market here also.

We lived in San Antonio for about ten years and moved to Louisiana for a job promotion...kind of had to do it, but worst physical move, ever. I cannot express in words how awesome it was to live in San Antonio...and the people there are some of the friendliest and most loyal that I've ever met. We still call it our second home and miss it tremendously. How can you go wrong? San Antonio has been growing steadily since we moved there in 1990...every time we go back there are many new restaurants, stores, etc. It is truly like a huge city with a very small town atmostphere. Crime? Yes, but like the previous post said, it's mostly vehicle theft unless you are in the known bad areas of town...but believe me, you'll know, if you are. The cost of living increased by quite a bit when we moved to Baton Rouge area....and the QUALITY of living decreased immensely!!
