I'm happy with my much faster and cheaper Roadrunner Turbo. I downloaded a 699 Mb ISO file of Knoppix about a week ago in something like 3 minutes and 20 seconds. I guarantee you at&t dsl will never come close to that.. I also still can't figure out how Roadrunner did it that fast either, that's definitely faster than their advertised speed, but I verified the file size after I was done..

I can say this about TWC, in the years that I have had them at this house.. My internet/phone services have never went down, except for when some crazy dude ran over a box that gives us the signal and they had to come out and repair it. Oh and when the area was being developed, one of the contractor's big trucks ran over one of the green boxes and then my services were out.
I think everyone can say something about their services being on without it shutting off. The difference to me is the service. Can at&t deliver service like TWC can? It has been a while since I have had at&t so I am not an expert in their operation, but I know this.. when I had at&t and had some problems, they were never ever able to get me squared away.
I always got the same things from the tech, We are not able to do that for you here is a number call this person and they can do it "I am a union employee, and we dont do that". Trying to get them to run me a new phone jack was near damn impossible. Then I heard of all of the issues that they had/have with U-Verse, no thanks.. I will stick with TWC. Maybe one day at&t will get it right.

Internet Speed
Unless you download movies or HUGE files...there is no need for an internet speed faster than 1.5 mbps. 99% of the time, if you think your internet is "slow", it is because you have an old crappy computer that doesn't have enough ramm. (Typically if your computer is over 2 years old...it is old and outdated). This is why your pages aren't loading fast enough. If you think your internet is slow...go to 2Wire.com: Home and use the bandwidth meter.
Besides, unless you are a paying customer at a premium site, most downloads speeds are limited no matter how fast your connection is. Most downloads or patches and updates to software is limited to about 50- 100 kbps.
So when you are paying for a 6 mbps Road runner. You basically bought a Ferrari and will never drive it over 55 MPH.
Your money would be better spent buying a new PC or upgrading your RAMM to 2 or 4 gigs.

TWC is not unionized. You can get them to crawl in the attics.. It appears that at&t employees dont have to crawl in your attics to put in outlets because of their union?
And yeap.. if your running at 10mbps and all you do is surf boards.. your internet is probably more then what you need. So you can downgrade to the lowest level of your internet. Now if you like to DL a lot of stuff or do those games over the internet.. I would think you have to go higher.

My wife switched us yesterday from TWC to ATT. I was skeptical about changing but she was upset that our bill went up by $20. It seemed it kept going up a little every couple of months and then this month it really went up.
I hope we don't have any regrets later on.

I hope you dont either. Everyone has to make a personal choice.. My bill going up 20 bucks wont effect me one way or the other. My deal is service. Who can provide the best? I just dont believe at&t is there...

TWC had a private contractor do our installation in '99. For it we had bad wiring and one of our boxes always had a weak signal and was problematic. When they came out again last year for it they said all of the wiring was bad and that the contractor must have been in a hurry. That is just one example. I for one am with the others who cannot wait for more competition because as soon as I can leave TWC I will leave behind years of bad service that they have offered.
