Has anyone heard of the large number of teachers (as many as 100?) who were placed on the reassignment list this last spring? I've heard that it caused - and continues to cause - a lot of stress, questions about the NEISD strategy in doing this, etc.

I'd like to hear more about this, if anyone has some info. My DD is considering acquiring a certificate, then advanced degree in education. I'm not sure if this is a viable and reliable source of employment anymore.

Also, has the effort towards abolishing the tenure track come to San Antonio yet?

moving bad teachers around? stress because youre not good at your job (not you personally) and are getting moved to somewhere where your lackluster skills can be used?

consider the cut in education funding in that equation and you get the mess we have now.

but in all seriousness, why would being reassigned stress a teacher out? comfortable at the school you're at? maybe your skills are needed at worse schools to improve scores...

i wouldnt take it personally. you knew there was the chance to be reassigned when you signed on. besides, dont teachers teach because they love to teach? where you teach at should be irrelevant unless you have other reasons for being stressed over the reassignment...

There is NO tenure in Texas. Even those on so called continuing contracts may be reassigned/surplussed, or even RIF'd.

Reassignments/Surplus/Displacement generally come due to several factors:
  • a new school opening that relieves overcrowding at another school
  • changes in enrollment numbers that means changes in staffing numbers
  • redrawing of boundaries that change enrollment numbers
  • adding or deleting programs or courses
  • changes in class size that dictate changes in staffing numbers
  • misconduct/personnel/conflict issues

This year, Tex Hill Middle School will open, which means Tejeda, Bush, Driscoll, and Lopez will see enrollment and staffing changes. I can't speak to changes in class size in middle and high school, but I believe that elementary is still keeping the 24 student cap at K-4.

Teachers should be used where needed. If you are a specialist in math , maybe you will be at a school that is having issues. That would be nice. But I not a teacher.

The new middle school necessitated boundary changes for the next school year.

NEISD MIDDLE SCHOOL BOUNDARY CHANGES

New boundary lines and grandfathering (described at the link I posted) would have affected enrollments at all of the schools pobre mentioned, plus the high schools they feed into. I'm sure involuntary staff shuffling is one of the issues NEISD has tried to avoid over the years by making minimal changes to boundaries.

Here is a link to the presentations made during boundary change deliberations: http://www.neisd.net/2013-2014-MS/Bo...esentation.pdf

When redrawing boundaries due to current numbers, NEISD takes in account many factors, such as projected growth, community concerns, etc. However, staffing changes/movements are not a factor. The primary goals are to keep straight feeder patterns (elementary to middle to high school), and balance enrollment numbers.
