I tried to walk the Blue Loop trail at McAllister last week and had a very hard time because the trail wasn't marked very well. I was going counterclockwise on the trail, I believe. I got to the point on the trail where I was walking parallel to the dog park, then there was a trail marker that indicated I should turn right. I was walking with the dog park getting closer in my right, with airplanes flying low and getting ready to land, parallel but in the opposite direction to the way I was walking.

Then I couldn't figure out where to go next. I went right, to the dog park and Salado greenway, but that didn't look right. I doubled back and walked beneath the electrical poles and that led to a road, and that didn't look right, so then I went back and ducked down a trail into the woods and couldn't see any blue trail markers anywhere. I gave up, found the red trail eventually, then after spendingg much more time in the park than expected, I went home.

Yesterday, I tried to go clockwise to see if I could figure out how to do the whole loop. I was doing well until I got to another area with electrical poles all over the place, just out of the wooded area. I turned right the started walking straight. I eventually saw a marker to my right, so I followed it, went through some woods, and ended up by a soccer field (I think it was the Upper Bee soccer fields). Then I was lost again. I walked back to the marker and went through a trail that led to a baseball field, but then I was worried I would get lost, so I walked down Buckhorn and eventually found the dog park again.

Today I walked the trail counterclockwise and walked past the Salado greenway and turned left on
Buckhorn and got to the Upper Bee soccer field again, and I did the loop, however I still think I'm missing part of the loop since it only took 1:20 and I was walking at about 3.5 mph.

Am I missing part of the trail? As I look at the trail map, it looks like I am but am not sure how to a access the trail once I get past the dog park. It doesn't look like I should be walking on Buckhorn at all. When I went clockwise, I'm wondering if I was supposed to get to the clearing by the electric poles, cross to the wooded area, then turn left onto the trail rather than going right and walking by the baseball field.

Sorry this is long and confusing (like the trail!) but I'm trying to be descriptive so I can give you an indication of where I was struggling so maybe somebody can give me advice. Thanks!

Good luck. I ran at McAllister for the first time (not off Salado Creek) and the only way I made it back to my car was spotting the group that I ran with. I feel like they need better signs (like Hardberger) to navigate.

blue loop lost its appeal once they killed part of the trail with additional soccer fields.

I run the Orange trail. Easily marked and a full mile each time around.
